If you could afford to go for a cruise in 1964 this where you could have gone and the cost. In 1964 P&O-Orient Lines (as they were then
called... i.e. P&O had taken over Orient Line in 1960 and the two companies
operated jointly under the P&O-Orient name until about the end of 1967 when
the company became P&O. The ships operating out of Southampton (and/or
Tilbury) in that year, in order of tonnage, were the flagship
"Canberra" (45,000 tons) built in 1961, "Oriana" (42,000
tons), "Arcadia" (30,000 tons), "Iberia" (30,000 tons),
"Orsova" (29,000 tons) and "Chusan" (24,000 tons). They
were, at this time, two class ships....First and Tourist Class Passengers. Children over 12 years of age were charged full
fare, and half fare under 12 years at the date of sailing. Canberra cruised to New York Fair on
19th June, 15 day cruise with fares 1st. Class ranging from £152 to £388;
